Thank you for choosing Artisan for your lip tattoo

Please take care of them by following these instructions:

Gently wash once a day with tepid (warm) water and very mild soap - no scrubbing

Blot lips dry (gently, do not wipe please)

Apply the Artisan Antibacterical Lip Salve purchased at the time of your appointment.

Do this for 7-10 days or until lips are fully healed.

Apply the salve every few hours.

No anti aging acids or acne acids should be used on the skin whatsoever

We recommend no solid food and drinking any beverages through a straw for the first 24-48 hours

Avoid strenuous activity for three to four days as increased blood pressure and dilated blood vessels increase swelling and "oozing".  Also, this is in here because sweat running into your wounds stings and can cause infection.

Do not excessively stretch lips that are healing with big smiles or pucker lips with smoking

Do not bleach teeth

Try to avoid any toothpaste coming in contact with lips during healing process

What to expect during healing:

Lips will "ooze" to begin with and on the third day will begin to peel

You may relieve the chapped lip by lightly massaging the lips after placing a thick layer of salve/ ointment on them and making gentle circular motions with one finger. The light wet massage helps get loose skin off that is ready to come off without yanking out skin which isn't ready to come off.  This may be repeated every few hours.

Lips will peel for about one week.  Other than the massage mentioned above, allow it to flake off on its own. Picking and pulling off skin which is not ready to come off will result in pigment loss and can pull out deeper tissue which can lead to permanent scarring.

The edges or lip liner will most likely be the last to fall off. Pulling this off will result in an uneven splotchy line or an indented scar.

It is normal to feel discomfort or pressure the day of the lip procedure. The day after should be minimal. If you begin to have pain on the 3rd or 4th day after being pain free it is a signal that something is wrong which usually means either an infection a cold sore or possibly allergic contact dermatitis from the ointment/salve.  In any of these cases please go to your local pharmacy or doctor  who can advise on the procedure to take from there. It may be as simple as trying a different salve.
